Can my map be transferred into the software or do I need
to re-create it myself?
There is no current "import" process for the map. You are encouraged to try
to create the map on your own using the built-in utilities of the software.
However, if desired, I could create your map for you for an additional fee,
depending on the complexity and time involved.
We have an elaborate numbering system on our existing
map, will this work with the software?
Likely yes, there is always a way. There are three identifiers that the
software uses to identify the individual graves of your cemetery. The section,
lot and grave location. Each one of these identifiers is alphanumeric, meaning
that it can contain letters and numbers in any combination and can hold up to 10
characters each. So if your primary section is "ABC" and your sub-section is
"12E43" and your first grave is "101" then this will all perfectly fit into the
software. If you have more than one sub-section I would urge you to try to merge
this into either the Section or the Lot fields.
Can I input records from more than one computer?
Yes and no. You cannot input data into two different computers and then merge
the information later. You can, however, input on one computer and then copy the
database to the next computer and continue working by performing a
backup/restore function from within the software.
Can I use the same registration for more than one computer?
If the computers will all be used for the same organization, yes, you may
share the registration information.
How can I preview a report before sending it to the printer?
At this time that feature is not available. Only printing directly to the
printer is currently supported. However, there are utilities available at
various download sites that would allow you to install a print-to-screen printer
driver that I would encourage you to investigate until a solution is available.
One very good software can be found at:
http://www.fineprint.com/.
How do I create a custom report?
When you visit the reports section you see a grid to create an Advanced
Report. You simply include the columns that you want for your report, determine
how you want those columns sorted, and then add any filters that you may want to
make your report unique. For a sample screenshot of this please click
here.
How do I use the new Advanced Map Editor?
I just put out a help document, you can view it online by clicking
HERE.
I am getting an error that my data file is corrupt, what can I do?
This can happen if the database file is tampered with. Please do not try to
directly work with the database file. If necessary, you may download a clean
database file from this website. The file can be found by clicking
here. Running this
utility will erase any data you may have inputted.
I am having problems downloading the software with the link on the
page. What can I do?
Some systems (Windows Vista is a good example) are not allowing executable
files to be downloaded as the operating system cannot determine if the file is a
security risk. The download is also available as a zipped file which can be
downloaded by clicking
HERE. After downloading this zip file, you will want to open and run the
enclosed SETUP.EXE file which will install the software to your computer.
I am having problems with the colors on the map... how do they get
assigned?
The color-coding on the map is done automatically by the software according
to the data that you have in your files. Most importantly, the map locations
must match the database locations for color-coding to operate. If a record in
your database is Section: A, Lot: 1, Grave: 1... then your map grid location
must read: A,1,1.
- Records that have no interred or sales information will be colored white.
- Records that have an interred date will be colored red.
- Records that have an interred name or a purchaser name, but no interred date and
no sold date, will be colored yellow.
- Records that have no interred information but have a purchase date will be
colored blue.
I don't have a full date-of-birth or date-of-death, only the year...
how can I input this into the system?
This is an extremely common question, but not one that most people like the
answer to. Since the database stores dates as a whole calendar date (month, day
and year), inputting just a year is not really an option. However, what I
typically suggest is that when only a year is known (such as 1844) that you
input the date as 1/1/1844.
It says that images can be added to the files. Can we add a .JPG
image for each grave?
Absolutely. You may add one image per database record. Keep in mind, however,
that the images are not stored inside the database... only a location to the
image on your computer is stored. So once you assign the image to the record,
you will not want to move it from the location on your computer. I strongly
suggest storing images in sub-folders below your CryptKeeper application folder
so that they can be included in your backup/restore processes.
The map editor is pretty basic, is there any other tool to assist in
building the map?
There is now, and it is included with the new download. If you have an older
download and want to acquire the new add-on (for free) you can download
it here. If you have any questions using it just email me.
Where are the help screens?
To view the software help screens, click on any of the large buttons from the
opening window and then choose the HELP menu.
Why can't I get the software installed on my machine?
There could be any number of reasons for this, but here are some things to
keep in mind:
- You must have user rights that allow installation of software on the computer.
- Under Windows Vista you may be asked several times if you are sure you want to
run the software, please answer 'yes' to all these questions.
- Your computer must have the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 (or higher)
installed before you may install The Crypt Keeper. You can acquire this
component in one of two ways... (a) download the Microsoft .NET Framework by
clicking
here, or (b) Click on the Tools menu of your web browser and choose Windows
Update, then allow the update to install the component.
